Joke Of The Day

Why did the scarecrow win an award in Helena MT?

Because he was outstanding in his field!

The Helena Business Improvement District has been successful in promoting growth and economic strength in downtown Helena.

This has resulted in a dozen new businesses opening in the area over the past year.

The organization provides grants to new and existing businesses to support events that bring the community together.

For example, Ten Mile Creek Brewing used the funds to host events on the walking mall and expand their business.

Another new addition is Aspen and Pines Pilates, offering classic training sessions and receiving positive feedback from the community.

Overall, downtown Helena is thriving thanks to the efforts of the HBID.

Carroll College in Montana is launching the Pell Promise initiative to reduce tuition costs for local students.

The Roy F.

Simperman Foundation is funding full-tuition scholarships for six Montana freshmen each year starting in fall 2026.

Three scholarships will be awarded to Butte Central High School graduates, while the other three will go to students majoring in math or science.

In addition to these scholarships, existing merit scholarships will also cover tuition and fees.

The foundation has already provided over $2.8 million in scholarships to more than 330 students.

To apply, Butte Central graduates and math/science majors must meet certain requirements and file the FAFSA.

Carroll College expressed gratitude for the Simperman family's support and belief in the power of Catholic education.

Bishop Austin Vetter stated that these scholarships will help students contribute positively to their communities.

After her Baucus Fellowship, Melisa Carter reflects on the state of volunteerism in Montana.

She emphasizes that volunteerism is not declining but transforming, requiring nonprofits to embrace effective volunteer management for sustainability.

Successful volunteer programs focus on creating enriching experiences, attracting and retaining volunteers, developing their skills, and empowering them for leadership roles.

This comprehensive approach involves outreach efforts, tailored training programs, and meaningful appreciation initiatives.

Investing in strong volunteer management practices includes specialized software, flexible roles, open feedback, and recognition.

Innovation in volunteer engagement, especially among younger generations, shows a genuine desire to make meaningful contributions.

It is essential for nonprofit leaders to unlock the potential of volunteerism through strategic thinking, innovative approaches, and adaptation to changing expectations.

Tip of The Day

Visit the Montana Historical Society Museum in Helena to learn about the rich history of the state and its capital city.

During the summer break, thirty fifth-grade students participated in a Construction Camp in Great Falls.

Under the guidance of teachers and volunteers, they built six dog houses that were donated to the Maclean-Cameron Animal Adoption Center.

The campers learned important skills and teamwork while constructing the houses, which were delivered to the shelter in October.

The community has been supportive of the shelter, donating various supplies.

The students not only built dog houses but also gained confidence and life skills.

The Construction Camp is an annual event that is highly valued by both students and the community.
